The Marco Laboratory in the Department of Food Science and Technology at the University of California, Davis is seeking a Postdoctoral Scholar to investigate how fermented foods affect the human gut microbiome.
This two-year position will focus on the microbiological and metagenomic components of a human study examining the effects of fermented food consumption on the gut microbiome. The successful candidate will characterize microorganisms in fermented foods and human gastrointestinal samples using microbiological, metabolome, and shotgun metagenomic approaches and will investigate relationships between fermented food microorganisms and gut health.
Applicants should have a Ph.D. in microbiology, microbial ecology, nutrition, or a related field with no more than two years of prior postdoctoral training. Strong microbiology and metagenomics research experience is required. Experience with the gut microbiome, molecular biology, and biochemistry is desirable.
Salary will follow the University of California Postdoctoral Scholar salary scale, commensurate with experience. The position includes the comprehensive UC Postdoctoral Scholar benefits package.
